UE4 | Round Based Survival Mode | Indie Devlog #14
In this video we take a look at some of the updates to the turrets, animations and level design. We take a look at how the turrets have been transformed from being very snappy and now they are nice and smooth. This gives us control to balance the turrets. We then take a look at the animations. I've set up a new rig in Blender and got the first weapon setup with custom animations. We then take a look at some of the UI updates. Including the players HUD showing their weapon names and icons as well as icons for the gadgets. We then take a look at the reference gathered for the new level which is going to be based on the Azov steel plant. UE4 | Round Based Survival Mode | Indie Devlog #13
In this indie devlog video, we take a look at the turrets, UI and player movement. The turrets have now been fixed to properly aim at enemy targets. I need to make some tweaks to balance them as they are pretty powerful! We take a look at some of the updates to the user interface. Take a look at some 2D concept work and then see it implemented in game. We also take a look at some smooth player movement. Using bone rotation to lean the player when they strafe left to right. UE4 Round Based Survival Mode | Indie Devlog #11
Hey guys. So I've been chipping away at this new map still. I've mostly been working on setting up things for the animation. I've remaded the entire animation blueprint to be ready for the more complex stuff. The character animation blueprints are now ready to have unique weapon animations, as well as using unique animations for the gadgets. I've also started work on getting the shooting aspect more refined. The character now proceduraly breaths at idle, so the gun isn't held perfectly still. I've also added procedural recoil which is still a work in progress. I still have quite a bit to do in terms of animation, and it is proving pretty difficult, but I'm slogging away at it! I'm going to be using control rigs in a seperate project to so that the character and weapons can be animated inside of Unreal, and then the animations easily transferred to my main game project. On the weapon side of things, I also updated the code for the handling of the weapon. Using old UDK documentation to replicate how they handled weapon firing etc, as well as the reload sequence. I used this old guide: https://docs.unrealengine.com/udk/Three/WeaponsTechnicalGuide.html Those docs are actually really usefull to see how certain things have been implemented. UE4 | Round Based Survival Mode | Indie Devlog #10
I've made a start on a new, playable map. It's all blocked out and I'm currently in the process of meshing out the whole level. Its mainly buildings with a few accessible interiors. I improved the enemy AI so they don't run at the player in a straight line. They are still a little bit goofey but it's a work in progress. I also updated the mesh for the first person character. UE4 | Round Based Survival Mode | Indie Devlog #9
In this update, I've started blocking out the first proper map. I've got the rough layout and I've started adding some assets. I will gradually flesh this map out over time. I made some upgrades to the enemy AI. Its not great just yet, but the enemies will now disperse a little bit instead of them all running in a straight line directly towards the player. I've also got the main/pause menus set up and functioning. UE4 | Round Based Survival Mode | Indie Devlog #8
In this update I've made some progress with some of the visuals. The player now gets prompts for interactions. You can now swap weapons with dead enemies. While doing this work on the UI, I also made the shop have improved feedback. Messages can be sent back to the shop UI so that it can better provide player feedback. I also purchased a character set off of the marketplace so now my enemies have some models and that also means I have a variety of enemies now. I already have the inventory and health components set up, so its not just the meshes that are varied but the actual inventory and armor etc is varied with each enemy. While doing that I used another character model set to do the arms for the player. In this update I've made quite a lot of improvements. I've added aim space to the characters so now the player can finally look around properly and also a basic form of ADS has been setup. I've started re-implementing throwables. It's working but I need to add visuals such as throwing arcs. I've added system to set weapons to be semi or fully automatic. I did some extra work to the turrets. I finished modelling and rigging the turret asset and it's now animated to aim it's turret to enemies. I've also setup the ground work for the shopping system. I can now very easily create new ShopItem classes that can be added to shops. I just need to implement what they actually do when they are purchased. UE4 Round Based Shooter. Basic Enemy AI and Scoring System. Indie Devlog
Next update on my round based survival shooter built in UE4. I've now implemented a basic currency system. The player will gain money for each enemy killed and each round survived. I've also set up the basic enemy AI to chase and shoot at the player. Support the game via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/gingerbeardgamingstudios https://gingerbeardgamingstudios.com/
UE4 | Round Based Survival Shooter. Most Basic Form
Started work on my new game. Inspired from the "Survival" game mode in COD:Modernwarfare. So you have to survive infinate waves of enemies. You'll earn some kind of currency where you'll be able to purchase kit such as turrets etc. The first step was to create the absolutely, bare minimum playable version. So we have the basic player setup. Spawn and round management and some dum AI to chase the player. Now I can start to gradually layer in the complexity.
